Microchipping
At
Penstone Veterinary Group we use the Tracer Animal Coder system for permanent
identification of your pet. The scanning equipment and microchips conform
to the recognized ISO International Standard. This means that the
scanner we use can read not only the latest microchips but all the other
thousands of microchips already in use in the U.K.
How
does it work?
The
microchip is about the size of a grain of rice. It is injected under the
skin of the neck in a simple and quick procedure, just like an ordinary
injection. The chip contains a unique code which when registered with the
Pet Log database provides your pet with lifelong identification. Should
your pet stray then a scanner (routinely used by local authorities, animal
charities and vets) will detect the unique Pet Log number so that the owner can
be identified and their pet returned to them as quickly as possible.
What
type of animals can have a microchip implanted?
It
is possible for almost any type of animal to be implanted with a microchip.
Dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and rabbits can all be micro chipped in a matter of
minutes. No anaesthetic is required. For pets such as birds and
reptiles the procedure is a little different and may require sedation.
Please contact the surgery if you would like more information on micro chipping in these or any other type of animal.
How
do I arrange for my pet to be micro chipped?
Dogs,
cats and rabbits can be micro chipped at any normal appointment time. Just
make arrangements to attend the surgery in the normal way. We have the
necessary equipment at the Slough, Taplow and Farnham Royal surgeries ready for
use.
