Fleas

Fleas are by far the most common cause of skin problems in dogs and cats.  Each flea can lay many hundreds of eggs which can lie for years in the carpet and then hatch in response to human and animal activity.

THE THREE TIPS TO SUCCESSFUL FLEA PREVENTION

  1. Treat the animal

with a reliable adult insecticide.  We recommend Frontline Spray or Frontline Spot-On as it is very effective and totally safe.  Frontline spray can be used on puppies and kittens from 2 days of age.

  2. Treat the environment

with a carpet spray.  We recommend VetKem Acclaim or Nuvan Staykill.  It is also advisable to vacuum regularly to remove flea faeces and eggs from the carpet.

  3. Break the breeding cycle by using Program®

This product makes the adult fleas sterile.  It is given as a pill for dogs or liquid for cats to put on the food.  It is also available as a 6 monthly injection for cats.

Please Note

Some of these products are POM medications which means that we are only permitted to sell them to current clients.  We may therefore request that your animal be checked over before they can be prescribed.  It is practice policy to offer 'free flea consultations' for this purpose.
